We needed to replace our built-in microwave. Originally installed in 1996, no parts were available. Since it was a "built-in", the replacement microwave and matching trim kit had to fit the pre-existing cutout in cabinet. This model and trim kit was an exact match size-wise for my original GE JET1540. Installation was straightforward. Very happy with end result. The trim kit was a little overpriced, being all plastic (original was metal) - and it sticks out with "vent holes" quite visible from the sides. But overall, it looks nice and functions perfectly.

This unit replaces a similar one purchased 3 years ago which developed rust patches all along the seams. I love the product since it matches my other Profile appliances, but now after only a month of use, this one has developed a problem with the open latch. I'm concerned about GE's reliability & quality.

I have had my GE PEB9159DJ1WW since July 2017, not even 5 yrs old yet and it just stopped working 2 days ago. The light still comes on and there is noise but the turntable won't move and nothing is heating up. My previous GE worked fine and we only changed it because of a kitchen remodel, we had it for over 23 yrs and never had any problems.

This microwave has a moisture problem. When cooking products on the range that generate steam, the microwave makes a very loud noise when starting. This noise is like a firecracker going off a couple of feet from your head. GE's solution is to run the fan before starting the microwave. Of course, the fan is very loud. They won't take the microwave back or try to fix it.

This is our second of this product. Both this one and the prior worked well until 3 years on, when each suddenly sparked, smoked, and then stopped working with normal heating practice (paper and plastic, no metal). The life of these seems to be no longer than 3 years, very surprising and disappointed.

Installed this unit 23 months ago...replacing unit that lasted 23 years! Within a year latch quit working. It was under warranty, so they replaced the door, the latch and something else. That fix has not lasted a year. Door latch is about to quit working again.

The part that allows the door to open broke three times and repaired two times. After three tries we threw the microwave away. Service technician recommended we get rid of it because it would only break again. It lasted about two months out of warranty.

This is the fourth time we had to replace the magnetron. I think there is a defect in the engineering of this product. We are stuck with it because it is a built-in and the only one that comes in white that fits this size. Keeping fingers crossed that the fourth time is a charm. I would not recommend it at all.

The original microwave installed when we built our home lasted 16 years. The replacement lasted only about 4 years. When the next replacement microwave was installed and turned on for the first time, a fan blade inside is striking another internal part causing a "rattling" sound. Had to call for a service man who came out and agreed the new microwave (the second one I had to purchase in 4 years) was broken and he ordered a new fan housing. That was three weeks ago and I have not heard from anyone since as to when it will be repaired. I used to purchase only large name brand products like GE. I may not now that it appears the quality and serviceability is deteriorating. So disappointed!

We had the earlier generation of this same microwave...which we enjoyed for over 15 years. Excellent features and the power is much better than the previous model. The door release is too firm and requires a hard push to get it open...could be much smoother.

I originally bought this in 2/25/2019, the door broke on 8/23/2019 and GE kindly sent me a new microwave as they did not have the parts to fix the door. The new microwave door broke again 7/23/2020. Repairman had the parts and replaced the door. Now 5/25/2021, door is broken again. Only now I am out of warranty and will have to pay for the repair. This is a known issue - just google GE microwave, broken door. The repairmen and installers have told me they deal with this all day long. Shouldn't there be a recall on this at this point? Our prior GE Microwave lasted 22+ years. Sadly, this one cannot make it 1 year.

So, our old (20+ years) Amana microwave died, and we opted for the GE Profile. We also purchased the trim kit (a little pricey, but does the job). The GE is getting the job done and definitely heats things up more quickly than our old one! Overall, we're happy with our purchase -- hopefully it lasts as long as our old one.
PROs: * Tempered glass face on controls -- WAY easier than having to depress sensors covered by plastic. * Nice 'auto' functions - we haven't used all of the options, but those that we have work great. * The quick start for 1-6 minutes is also really handy. * The "MUTE" option is awesome!!
CONs: As the title of my review suggests, there is room for improvement. * The latch to open the unit just makes the unit seem cheap. It's hard to press & actually makes a lot of noise when depressed. A handle with a pressure bar for opening would be more solid, make less noise, and work better with the aesthetic of the "Profile" series. * The door makes a LOT of noise when closing. There doesn't seem to be any way to close it without making a loud 'bang'. Some better (softer?) lining either on the door or the frame would make that a lot less noisy.

The trim kit could have been a 1/2 larger to cover the trim kit of the old microwave. It's much hotter than the old one. The trim kit is all bumpy and as it bent when installer installed it

We used our previous GE microwave for 4 years. This is to be a direct replacement. On third try, received correct trim kit. Unboxed microwave for installation & corner is bent at power cord exit. Works when plugged in. We installed anyway. We really like the microwave. Hopefully, last more than 4 years.

This is our 2nd GE microwave. Our first one served us well and lasted several years before expiring. It has a little grinding noise when the turntable rotates. Hopefully, this is natural and not a sign of early failure. We will see.

The oven looks nice. I wanted white. The button to open the door requires an excessive amount of force. If one has arthrities or a bad shoulder, you wouldn't be able to push it. The noise when opening is loud, and when shutting the door, the noise is loud enough to wake the dead, with a click like banging a nail with a hammer and a loud metallic clang from the door. My old profile was quiet and easy to operate. This one and requires two fingers plus body weight to push the button.. Horrible. The beeping is not bad at all, but the door latch is awful.

It has nice features & is simple to use. It did however take three months to arrive from Lowes. Not sure if that was a Lowes, manufacturing, or shipping problem. It may have a door latch problem since it is slow to open sometimes & the button has to be pushed in all the way & held, after non-use for several hours. Once opened it works fine. Read several reviews where others were having the same latch issues. Wish it was American made.
